Oils and spreads

How you cook things is really important, but you can only use healthier oils and spreads if you have them!

If you need to buy cooking oil, think about choosing:

  • Sunflower oil
  • Vegetable oil
  • Olive oil

These are a healthier substitutes to coconut oil and animal fats like butter, ghee, suet, lard or dripping.

The same goes for spreads. If you normally use butter, try an olive or sunflower oil spread instead. Unsalted and 'light' versions are also a healthier option.

You can also get oil as a spray which can help to use less

There is no reason to choose more expensive oils unless you prefer the taste.
